05 – Dissimilar Welding

Electron beam welding successfully solves the problem of complex joints, where it is necessary to control not only the quality of the weld, but also the behavior of the metal and the heat distribution.

This is the case, for example, when welding vacuum-tight connections. Challenges are:

• Dissimilar metal pair, stainless steel and Kovar
• high requirements for connection quality and leak rates below 10^-11 mbar*l/s as well
• Minimum heat distribution to avoid melting of the gaskets and feedthroughs
